A Nine Year Old's Definition of Pandemic
The first day of fourth grade of course involved hand washing reiteration and importance, especially because of the flu. While the teacher was talking, the word pandemic was used. Mrs. B.: "Does anyone know what pandemic means?" Daniel: "A pandemic is a plague that is sweeping the nation." You might just be right Daniel.

With the scare of H1N1, I see how the word pandemic would come up in a discussion. I am surprised that during my first week there were no discussions about this flu. We had a child leave early because he had a temperature over 100 degrees, so we had the students wipe down their desks. Each district has a different protocol, and the teachers didn't talk about the possibilities during workshop week. I guess the district is waiting to see what happens before making adjustments to the school routines.
